For over 150 years, Comitti of London, have been making the finest quality clocks and barometers.
The Founder of the company, Onorato Comitti, was a skilled Italian instrument maker who came to England in 1845. He sought a new future in the land that was enjoying unprecedented prosperity generated by the Industrial Revolution. Mr Comitti established his workshops in London as a maker of barometers and related instruments and in a very short time his beautiful products were gracing the homes of discerning customers. It was during the late Victorian period that the company diversified into clock-making.

Comitti Factory - 1888

Many of the styles made in these early days continue to be available today. They are recognised as English classics and sought after as valuable antiques.
Comitti remains a family run business. Today, the company is run by the grandsons of George Barker who married Louisa Comitti and joined the business in the 1890s. The Managing Director, Simon Barker, believes that the longevity of the business and its continued success is a tribute to the policy of carefully blending age-old craft skills with the most up to date technology, and the family nature of the company.

Tradition and innovation.
Comitti’s long history has given the company a unique position to create a collection of products that reflect a 350-year heritage of making fine clocks and barometers in England. During the 18th and 19th centuries instrument makers in England lead the world in terms of craftsmanship and technical innovation. Today Comitti’s aspiration is to create products that are appreciated for their outstanding functionality and superb craftsmanship, products that will become treasured family heirlooms that will always hold their intrinsic value.

Over the centuries, enlightened craftsmen have looked to improve upon the work of their forbears. The same tradition of innovation is embraced by Comitti as it looks to offer new features that will add to the pleasure of owning their products, and meet the needs of customers.

Triple chime clock movements are available with the options of Westminster, Whittington and St Michael melodies. Features such as automatic chime sequence correction and automatic beat adjustment mean that it is no longer necessary to call in a specialist clockmaker to set up or move such timepieces. Automatic night silencers ensure a peaceful night for light sleepers.

Precision quartz movements make it possible to have a timepiece accurate to within a minute a year. Temperature compensated aneroid barometer movements make possible more accurate local weather forecasts than the national information available on a daily basis! These innovations, and the fact that each product is subject to an individual inspection before leaving our workshops, mean that Comitti has the confidence to offer a two-year warranty against mechanical defect on all the products we make.

  Comitti’s place in your home

Time is probably the most important abstract element in our lives and the measurement of time as an art and a science is deeply rooted in our culture. For these reasons, the passing of time has a unique significance and the gift of a product from Comitti is a perfect way to celebrate a special occasion such as a birthday, anniversary, or a milestone of achievement.

The aspiration of early instrument makers was to create products which made it possible to better order and manage our lives. Today our way of life seems to be becoming increasingly dictated to by such measurement, creating pressures that show no sign of abating. In contrast, the home is increasingly seen as a haven, a place for relaxation, and fine clocks and barometers are sought after as functional instruments with decorative appeal that compliment contemporary and traditional interiors.

Customers are welcome to visit our showrooms to view a wide selection of traditional and contemporary designs are displayed. Visitors are also welcome to visit our workshops to see cabinet makers, movement makers and finishers creating these superb products. If you would like to visit our showroom please make an appointment via your local stockist.
