Admiral Fitzroy was the Captain of ship HMS Beagle of Charles Darwin fame. After he left the British Navy he set up the world's first weather forecast service in the United Kingdom.
This instrument carries his instructions for interpreting pressure changes, a thermometer and chemical weather glass. The cabinet is made from solid oak.
